Network administrators can use this information to make sure that Mac computers and other Apple devices can connect to services such as the App Store and Apple's software-update servers.
Ports used by Apple products
This is a quick-reference guide showing common examples, not a comprehensive list of ports. This guide is updated periodically with information available at the time of publication.
Below are a few ways to identify ports in use on Mac and Windows Operating Systems: Mac. Open Terminal application and use the following command: sudo lsof -i -n -P grep TCP PC. The easiest way to view ports in use on Windows is to use Resmon.exe and view 'Listening Ports'. These columns are searchable to view active ports. The Teleport Command. The Teleport command is an improved version of the Unix/Linux cd command. It can be used on all Unix/Linux systems, including Mac OS X. The teleport command (tp, for short) does everything the Linux cd command does, with these improvements:It keeps a history, remembering the directories you've visited before. By Abyssoft Teleport is a simple utility to let you use one single mouse and keyboard to control several of your Macs. Simply reach the edge of your screen, and your mouse teleports to your other. Jan 28, 2010 In 2003, CenturyTel acquired half ownership of SkyComm International, Inc. In Houston, Texas, in March, to form a satellite teleport for its global Network Access Point (NAP) system. In June, CenturyTel also acquired the fiber network of Digital Teleport, Inc., a 5,700-mile (9,200 km) route running from Illinois to Texas, and adjoining states.
Some software might use different ports and services, so it can be helpful to use port-watching software when deciding how to set up firewalls or similar access-control schemes.
Some services might use more than one of these ports. For example, a VPN service can use up to four different ports. When you find a product in this list, search (Command-F) in your browser for that name, then repeat your search (Command-G) to locate all occurrences of that product.
Some firewalls allow selective configuration of UDP or TCP ports with the same number, so it's important to know the type of port you're configuring. For example, NFS can use TCP 2049, UDP 2049, or both. If your firewall doesn't allow you to specify the type of port, configuring one type of port probably configures the other.

The application firewall in macOS is not a port-based firewall. It controls access by app, instead of by port.

Terminal (Terminal.app) is the terminal emulator included in the macOSoperating system by Apple.[1] Terminal originated in NeXTSTEP and OPENSTEP, the predecessor operating systems of macOS.[2] Fun casino no deposit bonus.
Free bonus no deposit. Apple keyboard mb110. As a terminal emulator, the application provides text-based access to the operating system, in contrast to the mostly graphical nature of the user experience of macOS, by providing a command-line interface to the operating system when used in conjunction with a Unix shell, such as zsh (the default shell in macOS Catalina[3]).[4] The user can choose other shells available with macOS, such as the KornShell, tcsh, and bash.[4][5]
The preferences dialog for Terminal.app in OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and later offers choices for values of the TERM environment variable. Available options are ansi, dtterm, nsterm, rxvt, vt52, vt100, vt102, xterm, xterm-16color and xterm-256color, which differ from the OS X 10.5 (Leopard) choices by dropping the xterm-color and adding xterm-16color and xterm-256color. These settings do not alter the operation of Terminal, and the xterm settings do not match the behavior of xterm.[6]
Terminal includes several features that specifically access macOS APIs and features. These include the ability to use the standard macOS Help search function to find manual pages and integration with Spotlight.[citation needed] Terminal was used by Apple as a showcase for macOS graphics APIs in early advertising of Mac OS X,[citation needed] offering a range of custom font and coloring options, including transparent backgrounds.
